Weekly Review – June 30, 2013

Well, y’all, I don’t really know what to tell you… This was a fairly uneventful week here at the Pathologically Literate Household. We had ZERO playdates at our house and ZERO sleepovers, which allowed me to recharge and get the house back to ship-shape condition (well, ship-shape for me, that is – that’s probably still messy to someone else). The Boy and I just had some great quality time together – very nice. Poppie took The Boy to the fireworks stand on Friday, so they’ve been out in the driveway every evening lighting off fireworks. Ruby alternates between whimpering and barking at the smoke bomb smoke as she stares through the window. I will likely be writing my next blog post from The Clink, as The Po-Po will surely be rolling up any minute to cite us for early firework usage. The Boy is too young, and Poppie is too old, so I’m the obvious one to get thrown in The Slammer… Next time you see me I’ll be wearing a do-rag and will have a jailhouse tattoo on my arm that says “Tootie’s Bitch”. While I await my fate, here’s where I stand on the literary front:

None of the books I read this week were really mind-blowing; I was somewhat disappointed. I like to have my mind blown at least once a week. Alas, we can’t always get what we want. Maybe Tootie will know the names of some good books. I’ll let you know what I find out. Have a great week, y’all!

Weekly Review – Sunday, June 16, 2013

Whew! What a crazy week it’s been at the Pathologically Literate Household! The Boy had friends over most days this week, and we had sleepovers here three nights this week. That’s just a little too social butterfly-ish for Moi, thank you very much. We will definitely be playing it much more low-key in the coming week (unbeknownst to The Boy). The Boy had two baseball games during the week, baseball pictures on Saturday, and on Sunday he attended a baseball clinic with the Lincoln Saltdogs players followed by watching a Saltdogs game with Poppie for a Fathers Day/Birthday surprise (yes, Poppie’s birthday was on Father’s Day this year!). Personally, I hid at home with Ruby amid all of the Thunderstorm/Tornado Watches and Warnings… It was the perfect time for some blogging and, of course, reading:

Upcoming reviews for the week of June 17, 2013:

John Sandford’s Prey series is one of my guilty pleasures – I’ve been reading it since I was in high school and it just doesn’t get old. I got to read a review copy of The Last Whisper in the Dark, the sequel to The Last Kind Words by Tom Piccirilli, which was exciting – you can look for a review closer to the time of publication. The Postmistress was totally different than what I’d expected – in a good way. I also enjoyed Learning To Swim – it’s the first installment in a new series by Sara J. Henry, of which there are only two books so far – the second one is A Cold and Lonely Place. I’ve got some great picks for the upcoming week’s reads, so I’m ready to get this week started!

Happy Father’s Day to all of you Dads out there, and to all of you single Moms who are bustin’ your butts doing it all on your own! Keep on fighting the good fight, ladies!
