Whew! Well, I believe Mother Nature knew the first official day of Summer was coming up this weekend because we have had some scorching hot days this week! Now, I am not a fan of hot weather or Summer in general and this week did nothing to endear me to the season. We have, however, had a great time grilling four out of the past seven days as we tried to keep the heat out of our kitchen! Poppie is a master at the grill, and made us some mad good food. Not to mention I got out of cooking dinner almost four days in a row… That’s what I call a good deal! You can bet yourself that I used some of that extra time in the nice, cold A/C to tend to my reading duties, too. Let’s take a look:
Books I read this week:
- Casebook by Mona Simpson
- Ruby by Cynthia Bond
- Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian
- Terminal City by Linda Fairstein
Book I’m currently reading:
- The One and Only by Emily Giffin
Posts from the week of June 15th:

- …and more!
Well, y’all, I was not blinded by the brilliance of Casebook as others claimed to be; I just didn’t see the excitement and wonder of it at all. A boy narrates the demise of his parents’ marriage and their following relationships, etc, etc… Eh. Didn’t do it for me, sorry. Ruby, on the other hand, Blew. Me. Away. What a powerful, tragic, and oddly romantic tale. Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands was just as good as I’d expected it to be, so there were no surprises there, and Terminal City (#16 in the Alexandra Cooper series) was yet another success. A pleasant week, all in all. Surprisingly, I’ve only got a couple of books lined up so far for next week’s reading – which means I need to haul my bum to the library, pronto! But before I do that, I must wish you all… Happy Reading!
Do you plan ahead for your reading list, or let inspiration hit book by book?
