Before we begin, a quick check-up: everyone have all their fingers and toes? Eyebrows? Hair? Homes? Thankfully the Pathologically Literate Household is still standing strong. Gah! Can you tell I only see tragedy in the festivities of Independence Day? I despise fireworks – that’s right, I said it – I despise them. Every year I lie awake all night long sniffing for the tell-tale signs of smoke, indicating that my home is about to go up in flames because Jim-Bob down the street got a little too happy with the Roman Candles. Poppie and The Boy adore fireworks – of course. I have very grudgingly allowed The Boy to light certain types of fireworks under strict supervision, and only if he is wearing safety goggles. He might lose a hand or a foot, but at least he’ll be able to see – and that way we won’t have to cancel Reading Time… While the rest of the world was trying to blow themselves to pieces, I mostly hid inside with Ruby and read books:
Books I read this week:
- These Things Hidden by Heather Gudenkauf
- Seduction by M.J. Rose
- The Midwife’s Confession by Diane Chamberlain
- There Was an Old Woman: A Novel of Suspense by Hallie Ephron
- The Last Time I Saw You by Elizabeth Berg
- Little Joe by Michael E. Glasscock III
Book I’m currently in the middle of:
- The Hit by David Baldacci
Books I reviewed this week:
- The Longings of Wayward Girls by Karen Brown
- Med Head: My Knock-Down, Dragged-Out, Drugged-Up Battle With My Brain by James Patterson and Hal Friedman
- The Last Whisper in the Dark by Tom Piccirilli
Upcoming reviews for the week of July 8, 2013:
- We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
- Good Kings Bad Kings by Susan Nussbaum
- and more…
Once again, there were no heart-stoppingly fabulous books for me this week. Seduction was pretty good once it got going, though, and I’m pretty sure Heather Gudenkauf is going on my list of auto-read authors. These Things Hidden and The Weight of Silence, which I read last week, were both very good. I’m just still missing that… one. You know, the books that you look up from every few pages and say to yourself, EVERYONE MUST READ THIS! Yeah, that one. Haven’t had one of those for a while. So, I’ll just keep on reading, and wishing, and hoping… *sigh*
What did you read this week? Did you find a fantabulous book that EVERYONE MUST READ? Tell me all about it!
