Library Love is a recurring post in which I share each week’s bounty from the public library.
Summer vacation began a little over a week ago for The Boy, and we made our first trip to the library on Monday. We were in a bit of a rush, so we only really checked out books that I had already picked out and reserved for him. He will get to make his own selections next time. I have to be very careful because I can be pretty controlling about what I want him to read. We’ve come to an agreement that he gets to read what he wants as long as he throws one of my choices in there every couple of books or so. I know, I’m so bad! But let’s not talk about my OCD parenting issues, hmmmm? Here are the books we’re starting the summer off with:
- Chomp by Carl Hiaasen
- We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball by Kadir Nelson
- Disasters: Natural and Man-Made Catrastrophes Through the Centuries by Brenda Z. Guiberson
- While You Were Sleeping: Fun Facts That Happen Every Night by Steve Murrie
- The Strange Case of Oragami Yoda by Tom Angleberger
- Big Nate: All Work and No Play by Lincoln Peirce
- Big Nate: Game On! by Lincoln Peirce (Kindle Edition)
- Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass (Kindle Edition)
The Boy just loves the Big Nate series by Lincoln Peirce (no, I did not misspell his last name). Peirce has a couple of ebooks coming out this summer as well as another print publication, so that’s something for The Boy to look forward to. As an aside, the Big Nate books are great for reluctant readers – particularly boys. I’ve wanted The Boy to read The Strange Case of Oragami Yoda for a long time now, and I think he’s finally ready for it. He’s already read While You Were Sleeping – devoured it as soon as we got home from the library – and loved it. The Boy does love his trivia, that’s for sure. He’s pretty excited to read We Are the Ship, as well; Jackie Robinson is one of his heroes. I’m pretty sure he’ll like Disasters – again, that falls into the trivia/history category. Hopefully, he’ll be into the other books I chose as well. If not, he’s grounded I will be very understanding. OK, folks, that’s the first official Junior Edition of Library Love! See you all next time…
What did you find at the library this week? Did you have kids to take with you? How did that go?
